"I want to play football"
|
The 32 year old speaks to hannover96.com about 'gruelling' training in Wolfsburg, expensive mobile phone bills, and explains how to say his name properly...
- Hello Jacek Krzynowek! Your transfer from VfL Wolfsburg went through very quickly. Were you surprised at how quickly things happened?
Jacek Krzynowek: "Yes, of course. It's a real relief for me. I spoke to my agent on the Monday morning who told me Hannover were interested. I thought about it for three minutes then decided that I would like to make the move, if Felix Magath would let me go. It's very hard to negotiate with Magath, so I'm very pleased the transfer was completed."
- You didn't have a great last year at Wolfsburg. You will of course want "to play football again" as Leon Andreasen put it last week, and show your quality again?
Jacek Krzynowek: "I played less and less after Felix Magath took over as manager. There were phases where I'd be sitting in the stands one week then starting the next week against Schalke and scoring. I'd be in the starting eleven for the next few games, then back out again.
It was even worse last season: I couldn't even train with the first team for a few days. Then I started against Heerenveen in the UEFA Cup and scored. It was the first time I'd experienced anything like that in my life. But that's in the past, now I have to look forward. The Wolfsburg chapter in my life is over and I can look to the future."
- You already know Mike Hanke from your time together at VfL - and you always seemed to combine well there...
Jacek Krzynowek: "Yes, working with Mike worked very well. I hope it'll be the same here, or even better if I can play a lot."
Jacek Krzynowek in the catacombs of the AWD-Arena - Despite the downsides can you take any positives from your time in Wolfsburg?
My first year there was a good time. After that things didn't go as I had planned. but it is important to keep learning new things — and I learnt a lot under Felix Magath."
- Wolfsburg is not far from Hannover. Do you still live there, or have you moved already?
Jacek Krzynowek: "At the moment I'm commuting from Wolfsburg every day, but I'll be moving to Hannover soon. My family are going to move to back to Poland so my daughter can go to school there. My mobile phone provider is looking forward to that!" (laughs) - On the subject of Poland - have you always remained a key player in the national team or were there doubts as you weren't playing at Wolfsburg?
Jacek Krzynowek: "At the start I always played regardless of what i was doing at Wolfsburg. But in the last 6 months there have been two or three games where I haven't started. But when I've come on as a sub the manager has been very happy with my performance. I'm happy that Leo Benhakker is in charge, he's an excellent manager and has always supported me."

- How do you rate the 96 team — despite a faltering season so far — and from an insider's point of view how do you rate Hannover's prospects?
Jacek Krzynowek: "I'll need a bit of time to answer that. I need to get to know everyone and see how they work on the pitch. And the others need to get to know me. I've already played with Mike Hanke and Hanno Balitsch, but I only know the others from playing against them in the Bundesliga. Hopefully it won't take me long to acclimatise, it's important there are no communication problems."
One major communication issue: how do you pronounce your name properly?
Jacek Krzynowek: "Ja-Tzeck Tschinóweck, just like that, nice and normal." (laughs)
